  1. Hi Heather and Barry,

I enjoy your new LWL TV. Just wanted to comment on one thing you shared. You mentioned something about the “known” teachers sharing their accomplishments as if you thought that was something derogatory…or as you mentioned that came across as them being all about themselves and more or less gloating about their accomplshments.

My personal perspective is that they share that because they have effectively utilized what they teach and simply want to convey that to those they’re attempting to reach.

There are many out there today that “claim” they have done this or that who are no more knowledgable, capable or successful than the people they’re teaching and in many cases less so. In other words, they’re not qualified to show anybody how to succeed if they’re unable to achieve any level of success for themselves.

Don’t you think that people would be more open and much rather learn from someone who has been there, done that and created some success based on what they teach?

To me it’s just good marketing to mention your accomplishments IF those accomplishments are real…it’s a form of branding if you will.

Just a difference in perspectives I guess.

    [Our REPLY]:

    Hi Chuck,

Actually, not a different perspective… we believe that teachers are more credible when they get results too. You’d know that from listening to our interviews or reading our blog posts. For example, when we interviewed Randy Gage we spoke about wealth mentors who drive a beat-up old car and he said, “That dog don’t hunt!” (i.e. anyone who calls themselves a wealth mentor better be wealthy).

We’ve written about that concept many, many times and how it’s INCONGRUENT for teachers not to walk their talk; not to practice what they preach; and how CONGRUENCY is one of our TOP VALUES when it comes to promoting or speaking to a mentor.

But THAT’S not what we were referring to in this video.

It’s interesting how you got the opposite of what we’re really saying here; and how, despite the real-world evidence we talked about, wanted to put a “positive” (optimistic) spin on it.

Like the optimist who fell off the roof of the 50-foot building and was heard, on the way down as he passed a window, saying, “So far, so good!”

We’re talking about “teachers” who write a blog post all about how they were having dinner with such-and-such a celebrity, or being interviewed on such-and-such a TV show, without using that instance to “teach” the reader or, even worse, refusing to interact with the reader when they’re using a “social” medium to do their communicating (a blog, or Twitter, or Facebook, etc.)

If John Billionaire was hanging out with Donald Trump at Hugh Hefner’s place last night, what does that mean to us?

If it comes with a lesson of, “Donald says the best way to deal with the current real estate market is…” or “Hugh says he got a huge ROI on this investment….” then that’s fine.

When it’s just “Look at me, hanging out with these people and living the lifestyle of the rich and famous,” then that’s something totally different. Teachers should teach, i.e. there should be a lesson mixed in with the stories they tell. And anyone using social media should be social, i.e. they should interact when people give them messages back.

Anything else is not only poor teaching, it’s also poor social media skills.

  2. Agreed !

Good for you BOTH for speaking your truth and for challenging these guys.

At my end, I have my reasons for NOT endorsing them.
I don’t know if you are aware, but on Jan 8th we experienced an 6.2 magnitude earthquake here in Costa Rica. Worst disaster here in 100 years.

So… I took it upon myself to do something to help the victims…

a 24 hour self help webathon… as a fund raiser.
    http://www.magneticfreedom.com/site.php/snew/read/january_17__18_webathon_arch/

    My point is this…

I contacted several of these self professed gurus and asked them to contribute either 45 minutes of their time with a session or to provide a video that I could stream live as part of the webathon/fundraiser.

And guess what? NOT ONE of them responded. NOT ONE!
Not even an email to say… I’ve got something booked and the date doesn’t work for me. And NOT one donation from them either.

SELF HELP GURUS – right! They do things to HELP THEMSELVES!

Self Help! They truly don’t care about humanity. It’s a business for them.

    Ok… now that I have vented…

  3. Hi Heather and Barry,

I was recently emailed about a new LOA product that was finally going to reveal the ‘secret’ and provide all the missing pieces. The sales letter was full of totally over the top hype and the worst kind of internet Marketing BS.

They are claiming to teach about abundance and conscious creation and using fake scarcity to sell it. What is that all about? And at the bottom of the page they invite you to make lots of money by becoming an affiliate, right there in the sales page. But didn’t you just tell me that there are very few copies left?

They also offer a ‘FREE’ bonus, which you will find yourself paying for after the first month, unless you opt out.

Less than a week later, I see the same two people involved in the Masters Gathering. It seems to that some of these people will jump on anything in order to get paid again for saying the same old thing.

In this field and in Internet Marketing, there seems to be a common trend. There are a group of big hitters who have an equation going on in their heads.

“I make lots of money = my time is valuable = you should be willing to pay to hear me talk”

That might be true if they have something new to say. But they are mainly just repackaging their old product when it doesn’t sell anymore.

There is a growing list of people that I used to respect, but now I just tune them out.

    Sorry about the rant.

    Cheers

    Rich

    [ Our Reply ]

We hear ya Rich …. as we stated in our video, the incestuous re-cycling of offers — offers that overlap too much ( way too much ) — is getting way out of hand, especially in the “metaphysical marketing” arena.

And, by the way, you NEVER have to apologize for ranting around here… it’s what we encourage it. See previous post called: “Hey Monkey Brain.” — http://www.lwlworldwide.com/blog/hey-monkey-brain/

  4. Hello,

While you may think you are providing a service to people, (and you may very well be,) each offering available to us is just that an offering, and what may seem like nonsense to you, may be the very thing which touches someone in such a way that they “get it.” So, it is good for you to decide what is of value to you, and then proceed accordingly, while allowing each person the opportunity to make their own discoveries in their own ways, at their own pace.

In the broad skeam of things, everything and everyone is just fine whether you preceive that to be true or not. From an individual perspective, things can look pretty different than from a broader perspective where it is more readily available to see that all the pieces fit together perfectly.

The most important thing is to let the pieces to come together in their divine order without the ego getting in the way. The problem with the ego getting in the way, is it thinks it knows best and therefore tries to exert its perference upon the people, places and things. Unfortunately, without the broader perspective and clarity that springs from that, the ego gets in the way, more than it helps.

Be here now, feel love, accept and appreciate this moment. Whatever teacher you want to follow, what ever practice you think is the best for you, if it feels good to you in the moment, then enjoy the moment of feeling good.

Now is all we have anyway, so we might as well bring joy into this moment, don’t you agree?

    Best regards,
    Jerry

    [Our REPLY]:

Ummm… Jerry, of course we agree, at least with the first 3/4 of your comment, ‘cuz you’re really just parroting a lot of what we said in the video! 😉 (Maybe you missed those parts!)

We talked at length about different teachers resonating with different students, and different products (or “offerings” as you say) resonating with different customers.

And we also talked about the egos of certain teachers getting in the way, and causing them to get caught up in their “celebrity” status.

However, we do believe that the ego is a necessary part of our Selves while we’re here on this earth plane, and that trying to completely obliterate it as you suggest is borderline dangerous.

For more on that, read our report called “The Eckhart Effect and The Quest For Spiritual Accountability“.

And we also believe that, while “now” is extremely important, it’s not all we have. If it were, there would be nothing to look forward to!

    Barry & Heather

  5. oops, I said Million instead of Billion in the message above. I guess my fingers wanted to write million instead of Billion 😉

    Jerry

  6. I’m so happy to hear someone who agrees with me. The Master’s Gathering is too filled with hype.

My first thought was who says these are the masters? My second was that they had given me nothing to make me believe that their package was worth the money to me. I could find no reason to make them richer. There are one or two of them that I might be interested in individually but as a group they leave me cold. I got so much hype from so many people about this and you both are the exception. This has helped me clean out my inbox. Some of the others have to go. I’ll keep you guys because I respect your stand.

  7. Hi guys-n-gals!

What, years ago, began as a self-help community – a real bunch of well-meaning individuals – does now seem to have morphed into an industry with a certain ‘corporate’ identity, with ‘business’ very much at its heart [and matching egos?].

That doesn’t mean that the products aren’t any good or don’t have the desired effect, in fact the quality and content [and therefore effectiveness] of many products are perhaps, in many cases, quite superior to just a few years back.

My point here is that since this ‘industry’s very much Internet based and therefore mostly unregulated [in conventional terms], forums such as this can only be good and not least healthy for the long term good for both product quality, trading standards and not least of course…customer satisfaction.

Since I’m about to launch my own website based upon my life experience with certain products [a guys gotta earn a crust some how!] then i do hope that i can contribute to aspirations of being ‘out there’, offering assistance [my journey story to others perhaps stuck in a similar bad space that i was in a few years back]… and i guess myself also – by way of L of A ‘good energy’.

Because evolving humans are still, well, evolving, then i guess Universal Laws will prevail nevertheless. On the other hand, as a kinda self-regulating industry, it works quite well…yes…no? Work in progress…

    JG
