The Trickiest Manifestation Step of All

One of the most difficult, and trickiest, manifesting steps to master is the “letting go” part – that necessary step that must be “set” if we want The Divine, The Universe, God (or whatever you want to call your Higher Power) to take up some of the slack for us.

It seems like a very nasty contradiction to focus on a desire and then be asked to “detach” from it, doesn’t it? Uhmmm, the hows and whys of ensuring the Law of Attraction AND Law of Detachment tango in harmony on the dance floor.

Yes, I can tell you from personal experience it’s a very necessary tandem put in place for a reason.

= = = = = = =

You see, the LOA ( Law of Attraction ) operates, without demand, like a master metaphysical organ – it automatically, based off your flow and concentration of 3-prong energy (mental, emotional, physical) attracts or removes people, places, things, and circumstances into your experience.

Yet, if you’re continually attached (focused) to your vision or desire, you’re basically telling the Universe, God, your Higher self, “I don’t trust your power, Buckoo.”

The letting go part is critical because it throws out all worry, fear, doubt, disbelief and concern.

As one of the mentors inside the “Barry’s Conversations” section of our multi-media manifestation portal put it:

“Detachment does not require that we give up our desire. Detachment is not apathy or indifference. Effective detachment never feels negative – ever! Effective detachment feels freeing! When we are successfully detached from the outcome we feel like the Universe has our back; like all is well; like we can trust in our greater good; like we are absolutely certain that all that we desire is already ours.”

If we continue to worry about a desire or move full force into action, without accessing where we’re at, it sends the wrong message to the subconscious mind. We want our subconscious and eventually super-conscious to believe we mean business when it comes to our intentional creations.

We can best do this by not forcing things (which is harder than it sounds, I know) and instead be aware and open to what comes our way.

  1. […] And in fact it’s such a prevalent complaint that, coincidentally, as I started writing this, Barry was posting a similarly-themed article over on the LWL Worldwide blog. […]

  2. I’m very confused now, i have been reading for the past 3 wks, different persons definitions of how to manifest what u desire, and i was to understand that u have to do something, wether it be something very small but anything to get the ball (sorta speak) in motion, now your saying (‘We can best do this by not forcing things’) like i have gone as far as checkin into gettin a grant! so, please clerify my misunderstanding?? Do i manifest my desire than do ‘nothing’ to get things to lean towards my ‘desire’ or not??

  3. Visualizing the “uncluttered” version of what it is that you want,,,,that little man on your shoulder always wants to dominate

  4. just yesterday I was faced with a day full of challenges, tasks to complete, people to get back to and problems to solve all with constant “interruptions”…how was I going to get through this day I thought….no time to worry, I set myelf on”automatic” ..the people I needed to contact, came into the shop…a miracle!…. this left me with time to tackle the other things …by lunch time I still thought…I’ll never finish everything today and couldnt leave over for the next day as the next day brings more …. well…..5:15 and I finished the last quote …how? I wondered to myself….not by my my power but by my higher power and letting go it. Thankyou……

  5. So true! Ant amount of pressure or forcing things to happen is just plain unattractive. The universe don’t like ugly.

  6. Barry, You are so clear in what the true intent of the message is. We cannot miss the point. The not letting go is what Jesus called little faith. We have little faith if we worry, fear doubt or reason. Just reading that for me in my case that God has my back makes all the difference in the world, hence the Universe has my back I can let go in trust. Thank you , you are wonderful. you help us all so much. Thanks for the work you both do to inspire us.

  7. I a bit confused I am trying with immense pressure or forcing thing to happen for what I want right now but depressed a bit as it never happened as I was expecting it as a miracle. I needed the deal of the house to be finalized as he promised that he will call me to go in for an agreement. but I am anxiously waiting for his reply. Is the pressure less that I am forcing or can you please guide me on this.

  8. Hi Barry,
    “Effortless success involves intent
and detachment, not struggle and control.”
This statement carries a lot of weight and has inspired me to say the following:
    1. Being invoved in something , like your goal for the day or your long term goal – detaches you from everything – even the conciousness of doing & achieving your goal. Detachment follows implicitly and automatically. No effort is needed.
    2. One need not struggle or try to control the situation. It is like distancing from the situation . Struggle arises when we are not a part of the situation and control also makes one apart from what we have to achieve. After all, to be a swimmer means to start swimming , become a part of water element and enter the training.

To become a part of what you wish to have, is the pre-requisite for success & achievement . This can be easily done by pre- suppossing that you are ‘That” which you want to be. Nature paves the way, automatically; and it depends on your alertness to grab hold of the opportunity and work towards your goal.

What I have expressed, is totally from my personal experience and not any airy comment!

  9. If we could put it all in a generality it may look something like … ‘It’s just the way Life works.’ Manifestation will work whether we are a willing participant or completely oblivious … no matter what, we are the recipientof our actions, both mentally and physically. How many times have we deeply wished or longed for something that was missing in our lives then reach a point where we surrender to a feeling of defeat? Actually ‘ letting go’ of that desire. Only to have a short while later, the right contact or people show up? I can honestly say this has transpired through my lifetime a number of times … when the student is ready the teacher will appear. However, back then we really weren’t aware it was due to LOA manifestation. Gratefully, we are now aware of this law and how it works, with thanks to you, Barry and Heather along with the other mentors in this field. I think the challenge is maintaining ones positive outlook and managing expectations (impatience). I don’t know about everyone else, but it still is a journey …. however a fascinating one!

  10. Perhaps that’s my problem then since I’ve been intending to manifest with “no results” As a matter of fact things have gotten steadily worse.

Question is if you need this thing to happen so very badly, your life almost depends on it how does one “detach?”

Seems like a cruel trick on us.

When it looks like you’re about to lose everything, then it’s really difficult to “detach”

  11. hi barry, wish i had heard this before. it could have saved me a lot of heart ache and enabled me to let go earlier knowing my desire and intent wont get lost just because i have detached and let go. this is brilliant thanks 4 the insight . regards nutan

  12. Hi All.

A thre pronged attack (mental, emotional and physical) is only three quarters the strength we have available to us. As has ben said by others, we are spiritual beings living in a physical realm.

Whatever the spiritual realm means to you personnally, I invite you to recognise and avail of this realm in manifesting your life. We are all capable of so much more than we currently believe.

When I have completed all I am capable of to manifest my life, I trust God to complete the task, trusting that I am completing the task of manifesting the Peace and Joy that is true living. Maybe I am being naive but I enjoy living everyday. You can also.

  13. Many thanks to barry and co for having made such a huge difference to the world by their teachings.

Its so simple to actually practice detachment. It is proven beyond doubt that this catalyses the manifestation and also helps us in a state of belief ( Not read as want).
Also i think that by detaching ourselves from the “how “and when, its very essential to know that a path of least resistance presents itself in front of you and thats something that one has to grab.
The other point that i have noticed is that , the fact that manifestation is so effortless makes us sometimes feel that it would have happend anyways … thats the catch where some people feel that they havent got much out of it..
youve got to challenge yourself in believing that you can achieve something big .. believing and being is essential.

  14. I think of it like this…
When someone asks a question that you’re positive you know the answer to and as soon as you open your mouth to say it, the information is gone. Most of us say or think something like I can’t think of it, or I can’t remember.
You think and think, wracking your brain for the answer you know is there. Finally in frustration you give up. You say or think something like I’ll remember it later, or it will come to me eventually.
Once you relax and stop TRYING to find the answer, it appears as if by magic. You read it somewhere or hear it on the radio or it suddenly pops into your mind for no reason.

The same thing happens when you’re looking for something. You search everywhere, and don’t find it. The thought in your head is something like I don’t know where it is, or I’ve GOT to find it and you’re right.
Finally you stop looking for it, thinking I’ll find it later or something like that and you’re right again. You put it out of your mind and do something else. Later, you find the very thing you were looking for, almost always in a place where you’ve already looked for it.

You don’t give up on the goal.
You still want to know the answer or find the thing that is lost.
You just stop the desperate search to find it.
When you relax and let it go the thing you’re looking for will find you.

  15. For me this is difficult. Many well respected teachers in this area tell you to keep visualising your desires. All the time. When you wake up, when you got to sleep, over coffee, all the time. This teaching contradicts what is being said above.

In fact I believe wallace wattles said (althought I may be wrong) that many people stop concentrating just a bit too soon, in fact often just before their desire is manifested.

It makes it very hard to let go if you are constantly focussed

I’m not saying that the above is wrong, just that there seems to be 2 different schools of thought on the subject

    Matthew

  16. Thank You Barry! Your point is so clear to me in your post that I have actually been able to finally discover where my troubles lie in regards to the manifestation process. It seems, through personal experience, that I only receive once I have “let it go”. I spend countless hours a day focusing on what I want, that I never realized that my energy was being misunderstood by the Universe.
Thank you again for your clarity, your wisdom, and your willingness to share what has taken you years to discover. I am truly blessed to have discovered these powerful laws at such a young age! With any “LUCK” (Location, Understanding, Connections, and Knowledge), we may be able to impact our younger generations through the formal educational systems.

    Freedom 4 All

  17. Being committed to an idea and a plan or a goal is the first step and then KNOWING it is coming is the understanding at the point of creation, that it is coming and letting go is the complete belief that it is coming. To continue to hold onto it can disable you from its manifestation because you’ve not allowed for it full acceptance.

  18. Ahhhhhh, “letting go” has many names 🙂

Tis the Ghosties we carry in our mind that usually do us in, freeze our ability to move forward or even ACT or DO, thus rendering the power of the Universe prostrate.

The ONLY thing that stops the power of The Universe working for us is our own thoughts. They act as a steel wall that repells The Universe or allow her to work on our behalf.

Being able to thwart our negative thoughts is a huge undertaking. We ALL hear “little voices” telling us,

    We cant’
    We are not worthy
    We are not pretty
    Who would listen to us

    and the like.

When we cultivate and grow the ability to extinguish or
repeal those little voices we can then plug in to The Universe and allow her to bring us our riches. How to do that?

One exercise I use in my coaching is to teach people to
first admit and face their ghosties (or voices) simply by telling themselves that they indeed are there. Second, we find a way to repeal those voices and the very BEST way to do that is to construct several “Perfect Moments” or “Perfect Days” in your minds’ eye.

What is a “Perfect Day or Moment”?

That which NOTHING can interrupt when you are thinking about it beacuse a perfect moment or day will

1- be so intense that your mind will evoke EMOTION
2- be so intense that your mind will evoke SENSATION
3- be so intense that your mind will evoke STRENGTH

One of MY perfect Moments in my life was when I gave birth to my son. The Doctor put him on my belly whilst he was STILL attached to me! He had a perfectly round head with orange hair. I can hear the Nurse exclaiming, “Oh, a Pumpkin!” Then the little one lifted his head, looked straight at me with eyes wide open, grinned and gurggled and then put his head down.

I can, at this very momment, FEEL what I was feeling then.

I am, at this very momment overwhelmed with the Joy and Love that I had then

I am at this very momment, INVINCIBLE.

At this very moment, NOTHING, NO VOICES can get through my thoughts.

Constructing your Perfect Moments and Perfect Days is a tool that one should develop so that they can shake one out whenever self doubt or one of the voices starts murmmering in your head. They will soon be vanquished and they will subside. When we take control of our own thoughts, we become invincible and become one with the Universe allowing her to bring us our favors.

Practicing Abundance, Prosperity & Kindness EVERY DAY,

    BE a Mentor with A Servant’s Heart

  19. Being a Buddhist that chants”Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo”, which means devotion to the Mystic Law of Cause and Effect through vibration and sound- I state my wants/desires to the universe, chant this mantra as much as I need and take “action” related to my prayers.
Encased in these activities is the absolute belief that the universe will give me what I want, something better, or will tell me why this isn’t good for my life.Because I have experienced proof over and over again, I’m able to let all “anxiety” of it not happening stay buried.

  20. This is called faith in the christian realm. Giving it to God and trusting Him to help. He does every time.

  21. I can truly relate to “letting go”.In numerous occasions in my lifetime here on mother earth, I have had experiences of truly just let God give me the answer, but the difference is to recognise the answer when it arises and to accept that that is what the Universe allows in your life!

  22. I never thought a grown man could feelfear when it comes to faith. Im doing the best each day . It does get easyer right? Ibelive I need to be patient god dosent have a rolex.

  23. Hi,

Although i have been studying about the law of attraction for a long while now i never really consciously started practicing it till very recently. However in the past few days i kept feeling that i was concentrating too much on my desires;-) that it eventually started feeling like i was getting desperate and frustrated.
Well it was a good thing i came across your blog at the right time. Now i know where i am going wrong.
    THanks for the wonderful insight

  24. I am glad this blog subject came up because this is not just something one must do to see one’s desires manifested but in all actuallity one must put one’s faith somewhere and where would one really put one’s faith if not in God/Higher Self/Source? When I read this blog it brought me to that point I really needed to be. I felt the letting go, I felt that place of where it has to be this way in faith. It would be like if we didn’t believe that our heart or our breath would automatically do what it does naturally and instead we needed to make sure it all happened with our effort of willing it or worrying it into place…how ridiculous that would be to even think we could! Your question lead me to that feeling of where I needed to be…and where I need to be at all times or at least to be aware of where I need to be. It has also brought me to a place where I love knowing my Father/God/Source of Everything is in charge and I can rely on this for All Ways and Forever More. So, detaching to me is knowing there is a Source and it flows as All Possiblilities, All Source, All Everything and letting go is letting what Source does best…So, if I go with this flow, I don’t think I could do any better than letting this Source Be and to me detaching from it really is the easy part when I know Who is steering the way!
I am appreciative of my Source, Meme

  25. This is so interesting. i’ve heard it before many times, so this article is forcing me to make an examination. Am I really letting to, detaching myself from the outcome.

I feel that I should be working, taking massive action, but instead i’m just going thru the day with not a care in the world, but guess what. I’m 1 step ahead of being homeless, and i should be very concerned, but at the same time, i’m growing and evolving. This is all good, but it takes money to live in America, and feeling blissed out all day, i’m not sure that will work. But the article was very encouraging, and i’m going to do what… meditate on it and keep growing from this information. It’s all for a purpose I know, but i’d like to get paid and paid soon huh.

  26. I agree. It’s the hardest thing to do – to let go. But it is absolutely necessary. After my wife and I tried to get pregnant for 6 years, it wasn’t until we finally came to the realization that we were probably not meant to have children and really, truly felt okay with that, (that’s “letting go”) then and only then did my wife become pregnant.
I’ve noticed that I seem to attract things that I’ve already forgotten about (or, “let go”). The things I currently focus on still elude me.
I think you have to be totally happy with what you have now, even if you want more. And not just tell yourself that you’re happy, but really feel happy. If you’re truly happy with your life now, then you’ve let go. That’s where you want to be.

  27. The key is to remember that “letting go” does not mean you don’t do anything, it simply means you only take “inspired” action. The difference between “inspired” action and forced action is that “inspired” action is joyous and easy while forced action, well, it feels hard and forced.

  28. Regarding the sentiment of 2 schools of thought, the truth may be found in the middle. i.e. you may need to do both – visualize the end product daily and then let go.
You need to be very clear on your desire, exactly what you want or something better (give a Universe some leeway to deliver the best possible solution).
And then let go and detach so you don’t obsess over it.

I think some people get stuck with the clarity part.
By all means, if clarity to you means doing visualizations (putting the cook in the kitchen / seeing the end in mind) or whatever floats your boat, this is good.

Just do it in such a way you don’t obsess about it.
i.e. I think it’s a great idea to visualize or give advance thanks to the Universe before you sleep and/or when you wake up as a driver or rudder for your rocket of desire. Say 3-15 min. If you can swing the luxury of 30 min. go for it. Then let it go and trust the Universe. Repeat tomorrow or whenver feels right.

You don’t need to meditate on this for hours on end or whatever the now trendy method like brain wave entrainment etc.

By the same token most of us are not Saints of bliss whereby we can say one time only this is my desire (without the ego coming in with lots of ya buts) and then letting go and have it magically appear. Besides it’s all relative. If I’m trying to manifest a parking space I should only need to do the intention once, however to manifest the dream home you might want to work a little harder! More effort but not a struggle.
Sure maybe Deepak Chopra or Wayne Dyer can do the one-shot deal for the big stuff but the rest of us mortals live in worlds of different hues meaning we have baggage and other stuff.

One size does not fit all – we are all unique individuals with personal hurdles to overcome.
I do believe in the concept of “Ask and it is given”

But here’s the kicker: You have to ask intelligently (thank you Tony Robbins). The how-to part. Lots of people will tell you what to do but they don’t tell you how to do it in a way that works best for you. Only you can determine this in the end.

So be willing to try some trial and error to figure out what works for you and seek inspiration along the way.
The best inspiration may come from within as “all you really need to know is already within you” – the ultimate irony.

Many people make it a habit or mission to spend much time and loot to travel up to the highest peaks seeking advice from a cross-legged gurus (internet sages these days) to have their brand of wisdom. The truest of all may say to you simply “Go within”.

Which leads us full circle back to the original problem – no shortage of people to paint the broad strokes of what to do. It’s the “how to do it in a way that works for me” that is the real crux of the problem. That takes some self reflection and examination – many are too lazy or too ill-equipped to do this, driving the whole self help industry.

The analogy comes to mind, of finding the magic pill to fix the problem instead of doing the hard thing of addressing one’s lifestyle and making foundational changes to correct underlying causes. Ya let’s rip open my ribcage and do some open heart surgery and unplug those clogged arteries so I can enjoy eating all those fried fatty foods over and over again. I don’t have the time or patience to reverse my heart disease by changing lifestyle or my eating habits – pass the scalpel – oops I meant the butter knife please.

Kind of a long answer to say I think most people need both camps of thought. Do the work – the visualizations, gratitude exercises etc or whatever helps you focus and get clarity and after that let go and allow the Universe to deliver. I doubt the Universe will begrudge you for focussing you rocket of desire again tomorrow provided that you do it without angst, anxiety or impatience.
Just because your internet buddy says he can easily manifest short-cuts does not mean it’s right for you.

Do what feels good / right to bring you closer to your goal vs desparately needing/searching/wanting.
The Universe is always listening so be impeccable with your words and thoughts.

    cheers & good luck…Lagu

  29. Aloha- I am struggleing with this- I am desperatly searching fo a job- put my desires out there- and trying to do the concept of putting my intentions out there, feeling as if I have the job already. Manefesting my desires… it’s not working. Both my fiance’ and I are so frusterated and money is running out! Maybe we are trying too hard and getting impatient- it’s very hard to “let go”…Pretty soon we’ll be living in a cave or on the beach. Hawaii is a beautiful place but you pay the price! We need abundance now- so what’s the trick?
    Thanks….mahalo….Barbara

  30. whoa!!! To hear from so many people on a similar path is encouraging. If this is just a small sampling of who is out there then there really is hope ,HOPE!!!
I was just thinking the other day about how many things i manifest without even thinking about it. i.e., i’m working on project, watching TV or the like and a thought crosses the mind and i say that would be a good thing to happen and the continue on with what i was doing, then a short time later that thought is presented to me in the physical realm. that’s when i started monitoring this …..i found out that it is happening all the time and that maybe i shoukd be a little more careful, then i realized that if i’m doing “it” a great number of others are doing it too. now that is really scary.
Yes release is a must because if you don’t you will clutter up the page with too many other requests, most often canceling out more than just the original thought/request.
as i read a long time ago, be here now, yes be aware of as much as you want but be in this moment that is how some are able to release.
no matter what else is happening around you or in the past or future there is a “must” to be in the very present. we can always change the future but only if we are very aware of the now. one might even say there is more right here and right now than there has ever been or ever will be in the future. the massive now, huummm

  31. as pangloss woulld say “alls for the best”

  32. It has taken me a year to learn how to do this. I watched the Secret long before it made “big time” as a sneak preview from a friend I ran into randomly (now knowing that was no coincidence).

At first, learning this was overwhelming. All people have used the Secret to manifest things in our lives at one time or another without knowing that this was what we were doing. I am one of those big dreamers who has always been loved to inspire others, but prior to watching this movie I got sucked into the negativity of my surroundings that I had attracted in my life, unknowingly with my actions and complaints about things not being the way I wanted them to be.

After great practice and finally incoporating God into the whole mix I have found that “letting go” means having a peace and contentment that one way or another; having what you truly desire is possible. You don’t know how it will happen. You don’t know when. You have to be patient. The big things take longer to happen and the not so big things can happen quickly. To those who are frustrated that it is not working fast enough, you are not ready. I did this for awhile… “If I think positive happy thoughts and visualize it will come” and it did not… so I doubted myself and tried harder. It still was not working. A few good things did indeed change for me but other things were at a standstill (the BIG important things).

One day I went to a Unity Church… they are believers in the Law of Attraction and about manifesting dreams. Finally I got it after listening to them talk about making your dreams a reality. The trick is to give it up and just say, you know, “I really want this to work, or I really want to be a ____, or I really want (fill in your own wishes)…..” and then follow it with: “If that is what is meant for me then it will be.” You are just giving it up to the powers that be. You may not be religious. You may not believe in the same God. That is okay… all you need to do is be grateful and believe you deserve it, and then let it go. Say to yourself, if it works out fine, but if it doesn’t then there must be something better that is meant for me. And you will see what happens. BIG things. Colossal things.

The idea they mentioned about the vision board is crucial and I believe it really works. But you can’t just glue pictures on a board and expect those things to fall in your lap. You must TRULY desire with all of your heart and hang it up in your home, and look at it and tell yourself there is NOTHING that is too good to be true or too wonderful to happen!

One more thing…. to those who posted comments about not getting a job, or not having this or that or whatever fast enough…. this isn’t the way to do it. You aren’t connected!! YOU MUST BE CONNECTED for this to work. Close your eyes and really see, not just a job but imagine if you could be paid to do something you absolutely love, whether it’s surfing or writing or jogging or whatever your true passion is in life then what would it be? Don’t settle for a job just to pay your bills. Visualize your dream career. Same with a house, don’t just think about a place to live, think about your dream! It could be a cute condo by the beach or it could be a huge house with a garage. DON’T SETTLE. In relationships, jobs, or health, or with anything. That is KEY and not something that is mentioned. If you settle for whatever then you are not manifesting your heart’s desire. You’ll be spinning your wheels.

I could give you my own examples, but this is not about me. I have learned how this works after a year and I still have a long way to go. But Letting Go is the key to opening the doors.

  33. Letting go is a blessing of faith to God and the Universe. You are trusting and believing God and the Universe to manifest your desires. You believe and know exactly what you want and you have confessed these wants to God and the Universe. Let go and let God! This does not mean that you do not continue to believe and take action towards your goal but it is extra insurance that you will receive if you truly believe. It works!

  34. I learned a long time ago that when a person read the Bible, to substitute the word ‘law’ for the word ‘lord’.

When you manifest (request) your desire, it is already done the minute you think about it, at least in the spiritual world.

Letting go is easier when you realize that the message is on its way.

  35. It is strange, but I decide something and God does it. For example, I decide that My Great Self (a substitution word for God) multiplies the motor fuel and it does … as quickly as I “vroum” with an empty tank !

Strange : it is not I that does the multiplying, but it is I that does the deciding !!!

It is even a bit awful : it seems like I (the human worm) dares to command to the great God of All Ages ! Things are upside down. And suprastrange : it seems that the great God likes it !!! Even more : He loves it. He is always ready to “obey” to that creature of Him.

The Great Master of the Universe is in fact the Greatest Servant of all.

Even if I don’t understand, I just put in practice what the Bible says : “You will decide something, and it will be granted unto you”.

Just decide, knowing that God is the One in charge.
Thanks for this blog. I wish the best to you all.
