The guest article<\/span> below couldn’t be a more excellent lead-in to what we having coming your way this\u00a0Thursday (November 19th): another LWL Investigative Report<\/span>, this time not about the foolery that goes on behind the scenes in the ‘self-help’ arena, but about RELATIONSHIPS.<\/p>\n

That’s right… as the masses take certain aspects of relationship-based personal development to some head-scratching extremes, we’re going to tackle the issue of how the cryptic term “unconscious commitment” is used to justify failure, or condemn and control somebody else.<\/p>\n

So, be on the lookout for our 20-page report, Committed To Commitment<\/strong><\/em>, on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Below, Roy H. Williams gives his view of “commitment,” as it relates to experiencing life in all its glory. Since everything we do in this life — or nearly everything — is about relating to others, we want to pass this on as a sorta preparatory read for what we’ll be staggering you with in two days.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

My Holiday Gift To You… For Real<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Tom Hennen has a line in his poem, The Life of a Day<\/em>, that says,<\/p>\n

\u201cWe examine each day before us with barely a glance and say, \u2018no, this isn\u2019t one I\u2019ve been looking for,\u2019 and wait in a bored sort of way for the next, when we are convinced, our lives will start for real<\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n

That line is a little bit frightening because you read it and realize you\u2019re guilty. You\u2019ve been waiting for that day when your life will start \u201cfor real.\u201d<\/p>\n

The trouble with life is that it\u2019s just so daily.<\/p>\n

I share this with you because I\u2019ve been thinking about my two grandfathers who are dead and my father who is likewise and I\u2019ve come to the obvious conclusion:<\/p>\n

Live while you have the chance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cPapa was a rolling stone. Wherever he laid his hat was his home\u2026\u201d – The Temptations, 1971<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In the final moments of his life, my father scribbled a note for me to find. In barely legible pencil he scrawled, \u201cAll the little things in life add up to your life. If you don’t get it right then nothing else matters. It gets lonely in the promised land by yourself<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

My Dad died lonely, I think, because he never made deep commitments. My father\u2019s confession of his loneliness makes me sad, but his scribbled note tells me he wanted me to learn from his mistake.<\/p>\n

I meet a lot of people who sigh deeply and say they\u2019re looking for their passion, something to set their souls on fire and send beams of light shining out through their eyes.<\/p>\n

But the people with light shining from their eyes know this….<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Passion does NOT produce commitment<\/strong>.
\nCommitment produces passion<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Solomon, that wise king, spent years of his life searching for passion. In chapter 9 of the chronicle of that search, the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon writes, \u201cWhatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.\u201d<\/p>\n

People read that and think Solomon is saying, “Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow you may die,” but that’s not it at all. He’s saying, “Throw your whole heart into whatever you do. Live while you have the chance.”<\/p>\n

This is my Holiday gift to you,
\nI hope you will receive it:<\/p>\n

Find something that needs to be done
\nand throw yourself headlong into it.<\/p>\n

Let today
\nbe the day
\nyour life begins
\nfor real.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
