Williams gives his view of &#8220;commitment,&#8221; as it relates to experiencing life in all its glory. Williams<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1569\" style=\"border: 0px;\" title=\"ForReal\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lwlworldwide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/ForReal.jpg\" alt=\"ForReal\" width=\"400\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lwlworldwide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/ForReal.jpg 500w, https:\/\/lwlworldwide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/ForReal-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Tom Hennen has a line in his poem, <em>The Life of a Day<\/em>, that says,<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span style=\"color: #000080;\">We examine each day before us with barely a glance and say, \u2018no, this isn\u2019t one I\u2019ve been looking for,\u2019 and wait in a bored sort of way for the next, when we are convinced, our lives will start for real<\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That line is a little bit frightening because you read it and realize you\u2019re guilty. You\u2019ve been waiting for that day when your life will start \u201cfor real.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The trouble with life is that it\u2019s just so daily.<\/p>\n<p>I share this with you because I\u2019ve been thinking about my two grandfathers who are dead and my father who is likewise and I\u2019ve come to the obvious conclusion:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Live while you have the chance.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cPapa was a rolling stone. Wherever he laid his hat was his home\u2026\u201d &#8211; The Temptations, 1971<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In the final moments of his life, my father scribbled a note for me to find. In barely legible pencil he scrawled, \u201c<em>All the little things in life add up to your life. If you don&#8217;t get it right then nothing else matters. It gets lonely in the promised land by yourself<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My Dad died lonely, I think, because he never made deep commitments. My father\u2019s confession of his loneliness makes me sad, but his scribbled note tells me he wanted me to learn from his mistake.<\/p>\n<p>I meet a lot of people who sigh deeply and say they\u2019re looking for their passion, something to set their souls on fire and send beams of light shining out through their eyes.<\/p>\n<p>But the people with light shining from their eyes know this&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>Passion does NOT produce commitment<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Commitment produces passion<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Solomon, that wise king, spent years of his life searching for passion. In chapter 9 of the chronicle of that search, the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon writes, \u201cWhatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>People read that and think Solomon is saying, &#8220;Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow you may die,&#8221; but that&#8217;s not it at all. He&#8217;s saying, &#8220;Throw your whole heart into whatever you do. Live while you have the chance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is my Holiday gift to you,<br \/>\nI hope you will receive it:<\/p>\n<p>Find something that needs to be done<br \/>\nand throw yourself headlong into it.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Let today<br \/>\nbe the day<br \/>\nyour life begins<br \/>\nfor real.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Roy H.
